The intravenous injection is preferable when there are severe forms of pyoinflammatory diseases, when there is a need to gain the highest possible concentration of Doxycycline in the blood or when the peroral intake is impossible. The intravenous Doxycycline dosage is 0.1 – 0.2 g dissolved in 5 – 10 ml of water, then added to 250 or 500 ml 0.9% solution of NaCl and 5% solution of dextrose. The solution concentration should not be more than 1mg/ ml and should not be less than 0.1 mg/ml. The duration of the infusion (depending on the dose) is 1 – 2 hours with the speed of 60 – 80 drops per minute. The duration of the course is 3 -5 days with the following turn to peroral intake.
If used for the treatment of acute inflammatory diseases of small pelvis in women the Doxycycline dosage should be 0.1 g intravenously per 12 hours, as a rule together with 3rd generation cephalosporin. Then the therapy is continued by peroral intake with the Doxycycline dosage of 0.1g twice a day during two weeks.
The daily dose for adults and children with weight over 45 kilos is 0.2 g during the first day (0.1 g twice a day), while the rest of the course a patient takes 0.1 g daily. As for the other disorders, the dosage may vary.
